Cascoland is a collaboration between European and South African artists/architects/designers and residents of New Crossroads, Capetown. During a four week laboratory, from 1 February until 2 March 2006, a series of interventions is being explored in the public spaces of New Crossroads, through a research of techniques, local materials, initiatives, skills and talents, informed by an engagement with the community of New Crossroads. Actions and structures are starting to arise around the Mayenzeke-centre and between Lansdowne Rd and Koornhof Str, mobilizing people to participate in the shaping of their public space. From 3 until 12 March Cascoland will be open to the general public, hosting a program of activities. Next to the constructed objects, there will be a restaurant, a film festival, a radio-studio, music & dance and visitors will even be able to book a night in our b&b-objects.
