Jair Straschnow
Israeli and Danish designers Jair Straschnow and Gitte Nygaard focused their attention on the Drop in Centre for street children in the Point Area close to Durban Harbor. Because of the fact that the Drop in Centre is a temporary structure, little basic needs are provided as well as means of leisure. Jair and Gitte decided to artistically offer these kids some more comfortable seating. They built a 3 meters long table, on it they made three African games (checkers, Mill and kalaha). The idea is that the street children can play games on the table but also use it to do homework or other things. Besides the Table Game Jair and Gitte also made an L-shape corner table, the ‘YellowL’ that will function as a horizontal blackboard and a surface for personal expressions.
