Jonna Slappendel hosted a workshop in which 12 toile’s have been developed that can act as templates for future fashion-workshops.
Staged from the Mobile house, Hi Tonkana encompasses Maf-Fab, Maf-Cosy and The Island. Using basic, cheap blankets (Tonkana – donkey blankets), the artists experimented with new ways of artistic expression through costumes and fashion design. Initially a workshop was set up at and with Operation Blanket, aiming to demonstrate the multiple possibilities of basic materials, making use of the spaces available and working with local artists to put Mafikeng back on the map. As a result Maf Fab was staged at Mmabatho Stadium, a fashion show, on a veritable ramp, of work by local designers and Operation Blanket workshoppers.
